The Shadows of Tombwater beckon in this newly released 2D Western Soulslike. Publisher Midwest Games and the two-man team at Moth Atlas have launched Tombwater on Windows PC via Steam on March 31, 2026. Players step into the boots of a lone gunslinger investigating the disappearance of Sheriff Elliott Flintwood in the once-thriving but now decaying Wild West town gripped by madness and Eldritch horrors emerging from abandoned silver mines. The game draws inspiration from classics like The Legend of Zelda and Hollow Knight while delivering a top-down Soulslike action RPG experience with nostalgic, gruesomely detailed pixel art.

Developed by Max Mraz (known for Ocean’s Heart and Yarntown, a Bloodborne demake) and Jake Wagner, Tombwater evolved from a small side project into a substantial four-year endeavor. It features an interconnected world with 16 unique biomes, 95 different enemy types, and 25 terrifying bosses that push players to the brink of insanity. Core mechanics include classic Soulslike combat, a map and quest log for tracking progress, and an apothecary crafting system for tonics and explosives crafted from exploration materials.

The full game offers 20-25 hours of gameplay filled with lore, unforgettable terrors, and sanity-challenging encounters. A demo from Steam Next Fest remains available for those wanting a preview. Tombwater launches with a 20% discount on Steam for PC. This souls-like Western blends gruesome boss fights, pixel art exploration, and a rich narrative of a town’s descent into darkness, appealing to fans of challenging action RPGs in a fresh top-down perspective.
