The Game Awards 2024 And the integrity of a Award Show

Author: GameTikker

The integrity of award shows has always been a topic of debate, and the Game Awards are no exception. Since its inception in 2014, the Game Awards have sought to honor the best in video games, showcasing artistic achievements and community engagement. However, accusations of bias and rigging occasionally surface from fans and industry insiders alike.

Critics argue that the voting process is opaque. While a jury composed of gaming journalists, developers, and influencers contributes to the selection of nominees, the final winners are determined by a combination of jury votes and public voting. This dual system raises questions: Are popular games with substantial fan bases unfairly advantaged? Do smaller or indie titles get overshadowed despite their quality?

Moreover, relationships between major publishers and the awards could suggest favoritism. High-profile games from well-established companies often dominate the nominations. This trend, combined with the increased commercialization of the gaming industry, fuels speculation about whether genuine merit prevails over marketing clout.

Despite these concerns, many fans still regard the Game Awards as a celebratory event for the gaming community. Ultimately, whether the awards are "rigged" might depend on personal perspective, but ongoing transparency and fairness should remain priorities in the pursuit of recognizing true excellence in gaming.

This years nominee announcement will take place on November 18 and the award show itself on December 12 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
