News: Award-Winning Martial Arts Card Battler Kungfu Card Enters Steam Early Access
Kungfu Card, the award-winning martial arts card battler that claimed Dice Con’s Best Chinese Indie Board Game of the Year, has officially entered Early Access on Steam. Developed by ZeroCastle Game Studio and Miwu Studio and published by 2P Games, the title is available now with a 10% discount for the first 14 days. The game transforms traditional Chinese martial arts into tactical card play, delivering counters and exchanges that feel straight out of a classic Jackie Chan Hong Kong kung fu film. It removes complex energy systems in favor of pure psychological warfare built around simple hand rankings from 1 to 9 and four fundamental moves: Fist, Palm, Leg, and Elbow. Players chain and combine these moves into dazzling martial arts combos while fluidly switching between Offensive, Defensive, and Feint Stances. A signature “Disrupt” ability lets skilled players turn the tables by reading opponents and breaking their flow at critical moments. This easy-to-learn yet hard-to-master design keeps the focus on mind games—probing with small moves or building toward a decisive strike—immersing players in the spirit of classic martial arts cinema through both gameplay and visual style.
Core systems emphasize dynamic strategy and adaptation. Anticipating an opponent’s moves and playing specific combinations such as triplets or straights triggers Disrupt effects that shatter their momentum and open windows for devastating counterattacks. Diverse martial arts schools and styles are available, ranging from the precise forms of Emei to the unpredictable nature of Drunken Fist and others including Baji Fist. Players customize strategies by combining school-specific Principles and Techniques, creating unique fighting approaches rather than relying on simple stat boosts. The current Early Access version includes 1v1 ranked matches with matchmaking and rewards, local multiplayer battles, friend and custom arena rooms, a solo campaign or arcade mode where decks are built to defeat a series of opponents, an in-game shop using earned tokens, player career profiles with quests, and extensive customization for skins, foil cards, alternate art, and interactive dialogues. Seven distinct martial arts faction decks are featured, with beginner-friendly and advanced options. The game received a strong early reception for the blend of familiar card and mahjong mechanics with fighting-game counterplay.
Future updates planned during the approximately 7-to-8-month Early Access period will expand the experience significantly. A solo PvE roguelike adventure mode is incoming, along with Free-for-All Pillar (also called Plum Blossom Poles or Meihuazhuang), a chaotic 2–8 player multiplayer mode. Additional martial arts factions such as Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Xinwu will arrive, plus more character skins, foil cards, alternate card art, interactive dialogue options, and arena stages. The full version is expected to raise the price slightly after Early Access concludes. Developers emphasize community involvement through feedback channels on platforms like X and Discord, anonymous data collection, and an in-game tool for suggestions and bug reports to refine balance, visuals, and interactions. 2P Games, a global indie publisher founded in China by industry veterans, has a track record of launching acclaimed titles including Sultan’s Game, The Hungry Lamb, Kotama and Academy Citadel, and R.I.P. - Reincarnation Insurance Program. Kungfu Card stands as another bridge between innovative Chinese developers and worldwide players seeking strategic depth wrapped in authentic martial arts flavor.
